And Even After All The Smiles

And Even After All The Smiles
By Owen Tan

A chance meeting in a room,
Full of people in joy, and in gloom
But their eyes catch one another within a mile.
The spark, the flame, the beautiful smile.

It starts with the roses and then the date,
And though she comes for the first one late
But the boy smiles and just forgives.
After all, he never knew when she'd leave.

And then two years just fly past.
Though no one doubts that they will last
Till the wedding day,
The smile, one day, just fades away.

And even after all the smiles,
The dates, the roses - after all this while
It doesn't matter any more;
The new one makes the old one a bore.

I wish I could say I knew who they were -
Yet I forget.
The past is the past, and we all move on.
To him I say - even after all the smiles,

It is really time that heals all.

Do forgive me if this poem might sound a little incoherent.

It is after all a long time since I wrote one.
